charlie enters my life

well. i have a new room mate named charlie. my daughters met him and befriended him today. he's not too much of a bother and he promised me he would be a quiet roommate. he's kinda cute too. he is short and green with a long tail and beady eyes. he is an american chamelion. we caught him outside today and put him in a jar. i planned on letting him go after a few minutes or so but the girls had other ideas. so kid one took us to the pet store where she purchased with er birthday money a nice new cage and some crickets for charlie. he is sitting on my kitchen table now. i like watching him. i still dont plan on keeping him more than a few days0. the man at the pet store said they need lots of warmth and direct sunlight and a big cage...so his critter keeper wont keep him happy long the pet store guy said. he recommended a 20 gallon tank and an ultra violet light. thats a big commentment so kid one and i went cmall, we'll see how the next couple days go and if she still wants him and wants to spend the money we'll upgrade to the big cage and light. otherwise we'll let him go again.

wow... to live in a place where chameleons just wander around outside-- you'd have to say that's kind of cool, right? (this coming from a formerly reptile-obsessed child who has always lived in temperate climates)

My brother had a monitor named Rastus that lived for, like, fifteen years or something. He loved that ugly thing. Loved especially watching it scramble after the mice that he dropped in the tank.

My nephew has a Charlie, too, but his Charlie is a small bird that your Charlie would probably like to eat.

charlie is still doing well today. mr poni and i spent an hour after the kids went to bed just watching him. an hour. i cant believe it, but we were sure he was about to eat a cricket at anytime. we never saw him do it though. we did get to see him like water off the side of the cage..cute.
