yea advertising

so the van advertising has worked. i had a very nice old lady ring my doorbell, wallet in hand, asking to buy cookies. she had seen my very subtle van parked on my driveway. she bought 5 boxes.
and then there is the lady that tried to run my husband off the road and later flailed me down, she bought 5 boxes.
and then when i took my girlscout to gymnastics we had another one. we were just getting out of the car ready to go into gymnastics class. i was reminding her to grab her order form to ask her teacher to buy cookies, when a lady comes running up to our van from across the parking lot. "do you have cookies to sell here?" she asked breathlessly. "yes, we do. what would you like?" i replied. she was so excited to find my trunk filled with cookies. she also bought 5 boxes.
15 boxes of cookies!!! just because i painted my van. and its only the first week of cookie sales.
my daughter has an outrageous goal of selling 469 boxes of cookies. i say outrageous because we worked hard last year and sold 150 boxes. i let her set her goal at the 469 she wanted because i didnt feel right about squashing her enthusiasm, but man it'll be a hard goal to reach. everyday after school i say, "woudl you like to go out and sell some cookies?" and she almost always says "no". then i have to remind her that if she really wants to rach that goal it will take lots of hard work from her. then she grudgingly agrees to go out. she is doing good and enjoys selling the cookies, but when she is at home she just wants to relax. she takes after mr poni tha way. sometimes she just really wants to relax at home and watch t.v. with nothing to do and nothing going on.
i'm proud of her though. she is doign fantstic. i convinced grandma and grandpa to take an order form to work so hopefully they'll get some good sales. they usually do well. they have experience, they always sold for me. then mr poni is actually selling at his work too. this is a first for him, he hates hitting up co-workers for fundraisers. he sold 9 boxes so far.
my daughter and i hit church on sunday and, yeay church, my small congregation bought lots of cookies from her. my church rocks!
we went to our first cookie booth on sat and it was very slow. what a bummer. we sat there the whole 4 hours and sold 42 boxes of cookies total. but never fear we have a booth at Walmart this sat. other troop leaders tell me we should sell 200 boxes there.
so that is how the first (half) week of cookie sale is going.

so, this is what i spent my whole morning making, with the help of belinda, also a mom for my troop. it is made out of an old shower curtain, some brown felt and some green bandanas. yea, girl scouts. belinda bought this cool stuff at the craft store to turn things into iron ons, so i am in the process now of ironing on all the embellishments. so now we have a troop banner, and we can hang it at our cookie booth sales! hurray.

i just realized i never posted the picture of my son with is black eye. most of you saw it in email but for those of you who didnt--- its just too cute.

Hella cool. I am impressed with all of this cookie jazz. I never got into anything like that. And I don't think my mom would have had the time to help out.

I'm confused- you already have the cookies? Stored in your garage and van? Do people get the cookies as they purchase them or do they still have to fill out the order form and wait? If there are people out there already enjoying Thin Mints- I will hunt them down and steal their cookies. Unless it's a kid- that's just mean.

great! i'm glad you guys liked it! hope you enjoy.
yes, there are lots of people in south texas already enjoying thin mints. we get the cookies right away here, instead of making them order and wait. its alot more work on our end but people like it better. instant gratification.

its about instant gratification here. we can go around with the order form first and then go back and deliver cookies if that is wthe way we choose to do it. but this year my girl and i are delivering it as soon as it is ordered as long as i have it stocked in the back of my van. then there are a few customers who order but cant pay 'til sat, so we'll stop back by them to drop off cookies and collect the moola.

pamela (and others)- by the way. do you like the banner as it is? i have some fabric paint that i was considering adding to give it some color, but i dont want it to get too busy. i was thinking maybe just some swirls around the outside of the stars. what do you guys think?

It's lovely as is. But of course you should do what you feel is right.

thanks. i have ironed it as it is which makes it good enough to take to cookie booths but a m still concidering the embellishments.

I agree with megs- when it comes to graphic things like signs, simplicity is often best. It looks great (and I love that you used an old shower curtain!).
